GCSE Child Development is studied as an optional subject from year 10.
Students will learn about how a child develops from before a child is conceived, throughout the mother’s pregnancy and then through the child’s first five years. Students will study physical development, cognitive and language development, and social and emotional development.
Students will be required to complete a Research task in year 10 and in year 11 submit a Child Study on a child of their choice and observe that child’s developmental milestones over a period of six months.
Past students have used this subject as a worthwhile grounding for careers in teaching, health care and child care.
