Educate Winners – School Library of the Year 2025

We were honoured and humbled to have been awarded ‘School Library of the Year’ at the prestigious Educate Awards in November. We were up against primary and secondary schools across Liverpool, Wirral, Knowsley, St Helen’s and Greater Manchester and were thrilled to bring the award back to school. To give you an idea of how very special our library is, these words have been taken directly from our nomination: So much more than a room of books, a centre of knowledge, creativity and community at the very heart of our school. Led by a skilled and passionate librarian who
goes above and beyond to foster a love of reading in every student, staff member and parent, and a team of enthusiastic, award-winning pupil librarians, who show remarkable enthusiasm for the library’s mission. We believe our library is a shining example of what can be achieved when dedicated staff and motivated students work together to create something truly special. Everyone who walks through the door, regardless of their ability or background, feels welcome and supported. It’s a place where everyone can find themselves in a book, where stories are
shared, lasting friendships are made and inspiration is found. Our library is a place of safety, sanctuary and peace; described by a previous student as the calm in the storm of her life, and this perfectly sums it up.

Pupil Library Assistant of the Year 2024

We are so proud of Kotryna who was the winner of this year’s Pupil Library Assistant of the Year Award. A huge amount of work went into Kotryna’s nomination and her tireless work in the library over the past 5 years greatly impressed the judges. Please click on the links to read all about Kotryna’s success and to watch the video made at the finals in London earlier this year.

School Librarian of the Year Awards 2023

In the summer of 2023, Mrs Hale was invited to the finals of School Librarian of the Year as one of three secondary school librarians chosen, after months of nominations, documents and visits to school, to be a finalist in these prestigious awards. Although she didn’t win, she was added to the honour roll of outstanding school librarians and was exceptionally proud to have been selected.

Pupil Library Assistant of the Year 2023

In 2023, we attended the finals of Pupil Library Assistant of the Year for the third time with Tom. He had dedicated 5 years to the library and supported the librarian through all of the difficulties brought on by Covid including having to close and re-locate the library. His support and help were invaluable and we were so proud of him when he was chosen as a finalist.

Pupil Library Assistant of the Year 2019

We had a wonderful day in London in March 2019 at the Pupil Library Assistant of the Year finals where we were inspired by all of the wonderful finalists, hearing about the difference they make to their school libraries and the difference their school libraries have made to them.

We were so proud of our wonderful Emma, who beat off competition from all over the UK to get to the finals. She was a credit to school and was praised by so many of the authors, editors and librarians there for the work she does to promote mental wellbeing through reading.

Emma was championed by author Karen McCombie, who spoke passionately about the pressures of secondary school life and how libraries can provide a sense of calm and a place of safety to anyone who needs it. She brought us to tears when she spoke about Emma and her relationship with our library.

Emma met so many talented authors during the event and was lucky enough to come home with bags full of signed books as a reminder of the day.
